Crown knot and Wall knot
Crown Knot
This is probably the easiest multi-strand knot. It is illustrated here, tied in a three strand rope,
but this does not mean that these knots can only be tied with three strands. On the contrary,
there is no theoretical limit to the number of strands used, although above five strands will
usually need to be tied around a core.
A series of Crown Knots produces a handsome form of plait or sennit.
Wall Knot
Another simple multi-strand knot, here illustrated tied in three strands for easy understanding.
Neither the Wall Knot nor the preceding Crown are often used by themselves, but they are
very important, and should be practised until really familiar, because they are the basis upon
which many other multi-strand knots are built and if they are clearly understood, other more
complicated knots will be found relatively easy.
