Heaving Line Knot
Makes an ideal grip on the end of a rope too.
A heaving line in boating circles is a line which acts as a 'messenger' ( i.e. it's sent on ahead )
for a heavier line when it is thrown to a pier or another vessel.
The heavier line is then pulled across the gap.
The end of the heaving line must be weighted to aid throwing.
Boat heaving lines should float and be strong enough to tow a man through water.
